The dermal fillers that we use at Ciao Bella are made from hyaluronic acid or HA. HA is also a natural component of our own skin which we produce and metabolise daily; think of it like the body’s built in moisturiser. It attracts water to our skin, and this is what gives us plump, youthful-looking skin. Sadly though, as we age, we simply don’t produce as much natural HA ourselves so skin can appear lacklustre and we start to notice lines and wrinkles and skin sagging, which is also due to a slow down in the production of new collagen and elastin in the skin as we get older.

By using injectable products with hyaluronic acid which has been scientifically created into thicker gels so they last anywhere from 3 to 12 months, depending on the brand and type of product used in specific areas, we can put back lost HA, strengthen the skin, rehydrate it and restore that youthful appearance.

Using HA-based dermal fillers, we can add volume back to the face, recontour areas and enhance features. During your consultation we can discuss the differences between the product ranges offered by Restylane® and Juvéderm® and advise on the best product choices for the area being treated.

At Ciao Bella we offer the 8-point non-surgical face lift using Juvéderm® fillers, tear trough treatment to improve the under-eye area and dark circles, lip enhancement, plumping and augmentation, non-surgical nose jobs or rhinoplasty, facial contouring of the cheeks, chin and jawline, as well as skin strengthening and hydration using skin booster products.

Your suitability for dermal fillers will be determined during a consultation with one of our registered nurses and injectable specialists where we will discuss your desires and expectations from treatment. A full medical history will also be taken to determine if there are any health concerns or medication which mean that you are not suitable for treatment. We take before and after photographs as well so that we can track the progress and outcomes of your treatment.

Pregnant and breast-feeding women are not suitable for this treatment.

If you have a known allergy to hyaluronic acid, you will also not be suitable for dermal filler treatment with the products that we use.

We use filler products from the Restylane brand, including Skin Boosters, plus the Juvéderm brand, including ULTRA and Voluma, Volift and Volbella from the Juvéderm Vycross range. All these products have a long history of use in Europe and the USA so you can be assured of their safety profile and a multitude of clinical studies to back up their effectiveness.

All our cosmetic injectable treatments are performed by our qualified team of three registered nurses, two of whom are also independent nurse prescribers who can provide the required clinical prescribing should an emergency or complication arise. At Ciao Bella, we feel that it is important to emphasise the fact that we operate from a medically-led clinic who have the skills, training and experience to provide medical aesthetic treatments such as dermal fillers.

All the products that we use also contain 3% lidocaine which is a local anaesthetic product, the same thing that you may receive when you visit the dentist for a filling. This means that as we inject the dermal fillers, the local anaesthetic is also injected so there is minimal to no pain or discomfort during treatment. For nervous or needle-phobic patients we can also top this up with a topical anaesthetic or numbing cream which is applied a short while before we start treatment.

Depending on the treatment being undertaken, we also sometimes use blunt micro-cannulas instead of needles which can offer a less painful treatment for larger areas or lips.

With ageing, comes all kinds of physical changes that will alter our appearance. With the face being the most visible aspect of our appearance, it makes sense that people would want to invest more here in trying to maintain a more youthful and natural looking façade.

Some of the more common signs of ageing include marionette lines, wrinkles and sagging and depressed skin. Dermal fillers treatment has become one of the best ways to address a wide range of cosmetic problems that develop with age, and some that can just naturally occur. They are a non surgical and injectable treatment that can work effectively to plump up soft tissue, enhance facial contours, eradicate laughter lines and wrinkles, smoothen skin, and much more.

Let us delve deeper into what dermal fillers are and what they can do to enhance your natural beauty.

Dermal fillers are injectable substances that are used to plump up the skin. They are a popular option for those that want to plump up and a better contour to enhance lips. The gel-like substance is administered using a fine needle to where it can be injected beneath the skin.

Besides adding volume, the small injections can also be used to smoothen and tone skin and enhance certain facial features affected by diminishing collagen. They can be injected into areas of soft tissue like the cheeks, around the eyes, forehead, jawline and chin. For the most effective results, these injections need to be administered by a medical professional. This will help ensure safety and training that allows the practitioner to know how much filler to use and where to correctly inject it for good results.

Dermal filler treatments are differentiated by which part of the facial anatomy they are used to treat skin and soft tissue conditions. They may also be categorized in terms of ingredients and brands. Let us look at the types of dermal fillers based on what part of the face they treat:
  • Lip fillers – these dermal fillers are used to boost the volume and plumpness of lips and get rid of wrinkles and lines
  • Cheek fillers – these are used to boost or restore lost volume and lift to the cheek area
  • Tear trough fillers – these are fillers injected around the eye area to help clear dark circles
  • Jawline and chin – these are filler injections used to achieve volume in the jaw and chin area
Nose reshaping – dermal fillers can be used to carry out non-surgical rhinoplasty by plastic surgeons. This treatment to the nose should only be done at a clinic registered with the Care Quality Commission.

As per the types of dermal fillers indicated above, dermal fillers can be administered to several areas around the face, including to the lips, around the mouth, nose, eyes, forehead, jawline and jowls. Wherever there is the soft tissue that can benefit from some added volume and lift, dermal filler can likely be used to give a natural looking youthful appearance.

You should expect some mild swelling after a dermal filler treatment, particularly in the lips, which will disappear after 24-72 hours. There may be a small amount of bruising at the points of needle entry. You can return to your normal activities immediately following treatment and will not need to take time off work. You will be given advice on appropriate aftercare to avoid the risk of side effects.

Side effects and complications from dermal fillers are not common but can include infections or allergic reactions, characterised by swelling or the formation of lumps, called nodules or granulomas. Should you experience any side effects post-treatment, immediately or delayed, our teams of nurses follow established protocols for complication management which means that we can prescribe appropriate medication and dissolve the hyaluronic acid filler in the event of a problem.

Hyaluronic acid is eventually metabolised naturally by your body so you will require repeat treatments to maintain the results achieved. Depending on the area treated and the type of product used, dermal fillers can last between 3 and 12 months before a repeat is recommended. Most treatments require maintenance every 6 months to make sure that the correction is optimal.

The price of dermal fillers will depend on the area being treated and the quantity (mls) of hyaluronic acid product required to achieve the desired results.

Consultations are available to discuss dermal filler treatment with one of our registered nurses. If you are interested in this treatment and want to know more, please book an appointment.

Dermal fillers can also be differentiated in terms of the ingredients used to make up their gel-like substance. The most popularly used substance in the dermal filler is hyaluronic acid. Many brand-name dermal fillers use this as their key ingredient.

This is because it is a substance that is found naturally in the body, with high concentrations found in the joints, eyes and skin. It attracts water, causing the surrounding skin to become more hydrated and creating a plumping effect. It is a safe ingredient to inject beneath the skin to boost volume without fear of an allergic reaction.

Note that though there are many brand-name hyaluronic fillers, the formulas may vary somewhat, making some more suited to certain parts of the face than others and affecting how long the injection can last. It is important to work with a qualified practitioner who understands how different brands work and can properly advise you on what is the best option for the particular facial aspect you want to be treated.

Improved appearance

Dermal fillers work to add volume lost from declining collagen and reshape certain areas of the face including the lips, cheeks, eyes, forehead, jawline and jowls. Their use is usually customised to the specific features and desired results of the patients. They cause a subtle enhancement to a person’s natural beauty that can make them look more symmetrical, filled out, and youthful with no lines.

Quick results

These injectable treatments work immediately to achieve volume where lines have formed and skin is sagging, wrinkled or depressed. You can immediately see that the area treated is plumped up, though it may take a while to see optimal results as the filler settles and any swelling or bruising dissipates. You can typically see the optimal results within 2 weeks. It is a quicker and longer-lasting result than using creams for the same purpose.

Safe and affordable

Because dermal fillers are made from natural sugar that is also present in the body, it is a safe option for cosmetic procedures as it replicates how the naturally occurring version in the body operates. It works the same way to enhance facial features that may have suffered the adverse effects of advanced age. If you do not like the results you can simply wait for the semi permanent dermal fillers that have been administered to wear off. The cost is far more affordable than undergoing surgical cosmetic surgery for the same lift and can last from about three to six months. To ensure the best results and a safe experience, this treatment should only be performed by a qualified medical practitioner.

Dermal fillers are quickly administered using fine needles. The treatment is quick and painless, allowing the patients to enjoy results for up to three to six months. Though not permanent fillers Bristol patients can expect then to last even up to eight months depending on how fast the body metabolises the filler.

With any cosmetic procedure, it is important to think about what you are hoping to achieve and if this treatment is the best way to go about it. If you decide treatments with a dermal filler are the best solution for improving your facial appearance, you then need to find a clinic or practitioner that is properly trained, qualified, registered and experienced. They should also have suitable insurance to provide this service.

You can verify all these details by booking an initial free consultation with the practitioner and use this opportunity to also ask whatever questions you have about the procedure. This free consultation is a good way to gauge the ability and qualifications of the medical doctors you are considering. You can also discuss what other non surgical treatments you can opt for to enhance facial contouring and features.

Hyaluronic acid based dermal fillers are a safe and non-permanent solution that can deliver excellent results when treatment is done by a qualified practitioner.

The treatment starts with a thorough consultation with the practitioner. He will want to discuss what problem areas you feel you have and carry out a physical exam. During the dermal fillers consultation, you will also go over your medical history to determine if this treatment is a safe option for you. After discussing your treatment options and dermal fillers are found to be the best option, you can proceed with the treatment.

The treatment will usually take less than 30 minutes long, typically depending on the size of the area being treated. Treatment usually starts with the application of a local anaesthetic cream. This will make it easier to endure the injections. Even without the use of numbing cream, the fine needles used to administer the hyaluronic acid tend to be fairly pain-free. Most patients report feeling a small pinching sensation when being injected. You may feel some discomfort, but no pain.

Immediately after the injections are administered to the lip area, mouth lines, cheeks, eyes, forehead or jawline, you may see some redness, swelling and bruising. You may be given a cool compress to help soothe this discomfort. However, by the next day, these symptoms may have revived but should start diminishing going forward. Within two weeks, you should be able to see optimal results from the effective treatment.

Immediately after the procedure, the treated area may look a bit red and swollen. You may also feel some soreness and see bruising. This is because many of the targeted injection sites for dermal fillers are parts of the face where the skin is thin and may have a lot of blood vessels. Within a few days, these symptoms in most patients should have considerably vanished, allowing you to realise the optimal results.

Most qualified practitioners will arrange to see their patients again after 2 weeks to ensure that the desired results have been achieved from the treatment and that no side effects or other problems have arisen. Do try to make this appointment, especially if it is your first time having undergone dermal fillers, so your doctor can note the results and learn if some correction needs to be made or adjustments to later treatments.

The effect of dermal filler treatments can generally last anywhere between three to six months. However, it can last a longer or shorter time than this depending on the type of filler that was used, the amount administered and to what part of the body. Patients physiological ability to metabolise hyaluronic acid can also influence how long dermal fillers last.
