What Are Cheek Fillers?

Cheek fillers, also known as dermal fillers, are one of the globally recognized beauty rejuvenating procedures. Cheek fillers are injections of hyaluronic acid and polylactic acid that are inoculated at areas around the cheekbones. The sole purpose of these fillers is to rejuvenate the facial skin by eliminating blemishes, wrinkles and making it smooth. They also give the cheekbones an extra volume hence making your facial features plumped and young.

Cheekbones are a significant facial feature and are responsible for giving your face an attractive structure. Due to such extraordinary outcomes, these injections have augmented their market in the cosmetic industry to a great extent. The majority of people, whether renowned or not prefer to undergo this treatment to make their cheekbones more defined.

Here is some information regarding cheek fillers that will be helpful for the ones interested in them;

What Are Cheek Fillers Made Of?

Cheek fillers are named after the material they are made of. Hence following are some types of dermal fillers that have been approved;

Hyaluronic Acid:

This compound is naturally produced in the human body and is typically found in skin and cartilage. It is one of the most common ingredients in various skin care formulas as it keeps the skin hydrated and healthy. It is an essential component of cheek fillers as well. Such hyaluronic acid-containing fillers last for up to at least 6 to 12 months.

Calcium hydroxyapatite:

Calcium hydroxyapatite is a naturally occurring mineral found residing in our bones. Cheek fillers composed of this compound have an efficacy rate of up to 18 months.

Poly-L-lactic Acid:

Unlike hyaluronic acid and calcium hydroxyapatite, poly-l-lactic acid is a decomposable synthetically produced substance. Fillers made of this material may last for around two years.

Are Cheek Fillers Similar To Botox?

One misconception that is usually associated with cheek fillers is that they are a type or another version of Botox. Although both of them are injectables and have been approved by FDA there is a slight difference that exists between them. Botox paralyzes the muscles and prevents them from undergoing contraction. As a result, the skin remains intact and uniform with no signs of wrinkles. On the other hand, fillers are implants that make the skin plumper without posing any hindrance in muscle contraction.

Are Cheek Fillers Suitable For Everyone?

Although cheek fillers are safe to use, certain individuals should refrain from getting them. People who’ve had a history of blood disorders or are allergic to synthetic compounds are not suitable candidates for this treatment. Also, pregnant or lactating women should avoid getting dermal fillers due to possible adverse effects that may elicit from drug interaction. Healthy individuals who do not have any history of chronic or recurrent diseases can undergo this treatment without a hitch.

Some precautions are necessary to take post cheek filler treatment. For instance, one should lie flat on their back for a few days to not irritate the sore regions. Also, it is suggested to not perform heavy workouts for at least two days.
